My Assessment of Sweet Bonanza Pop
Sweet Bonanza POP is one of the most unusual additions to Pragmatic Play's famous candy-pokie family. Instead of giving us another six-reel sequel with increasingly enormous multiplier bombs, the developer has taken the opposite approach: three reels, five rows, faster rounds and a bonus system built around instant fixed prizes reaching 25,000x the stake.
Released in October 2026 under the new Pragmatic Play POP label, this version is designed to be simpler and more immediately accessible than the main Sweet Bonanza series. However, calling it a stripped-down game would be misleading. Alongside its compact Pay Anywhere grid, Sweet Bonanza POP combines tumbling wins, Free Spins, multiplier bombs reaching 1,000x and three special POP prizes.
I find this direction genuinely interesting. After reviewing Sweet Bonanza 1000 and Sweet Bonanza 2500, I was expecting Pragmatic Play to continue pushing multiplier ceilings higher. Instead, the POP edition changes the structure of the game. It retains the candy theme but gives players a very different set of mechanics to follow.
My rating for Sweet Bonanza POP is 4.7 out of 5. What appeals to me most is the combination of a compact grid and the three fixed-prize POP symbols. My main reservation is that the largest advertised payout is tied to a very specific triggering combination, rather than being something a player should realistically expect from an ordinary Free Spins round.

What is Pragmatic Play POP?
Pragmatic Play POP is a separate collection built around simplified gameplay, shorter animations and a more casual presentation. The company has taken recognisable franchises and redesigned them for a smaller three-reel format.
Sweet Bonanza POP is therefore not intended to replace the original Sweet Bonanza. It takes the main identity of that game — bright sweets, fruit symbols, tumbling wins and multipliers — and adapts it to a completely different grid.
I think that distinction is important. We have seen enough Sweet Bonanza sequels that simply increase maximum multipliers or add another purchasing option. A three-reel version at least attempts something different.
It is also worth remembering that simpler gameplay does not automatically mean less financial risk. The POP collection is designed to be easier to understand, but the games still use random number generators and include a built-in house edge.
Three reels and five rows: a different Sweet Bonanza
The first thing you notice is the much smaller grid. Instead of the traditional 6x5 arrangement, Sweet Bonanza POP uses just three reels and five visible rows, giving it 15 positions altogether.
Wins are formed through the Pay Anywhere system. You need at least five matching symbols anywhere on the board, and the number of matching symbols determines the payout. There are no traditional paylines and no requirement for a combination to start on a particular reel.
Matching groups of five to nine or more symbols can award up to 50x the stake from the standard paytable, before the effect of any qualifying multipliers.
That might sound modest when compared with the enormous maximum wins promoted in modern online pokies, but the standard symbol paytable is not supposed to provide the biggest payouts on its own. The real potential comes from additional tumbles, Free Spins and especially the POP symbols.
I like this compact approach from a usability perspective. A full 6x5 Pay Anywhere game already has simple rules, but a 3x5 board makes winning combinations even easier to recognise. There are fewer symbols to follow and less visual clutter when several effects appear.
Tumbling wins keep the action moving
Sweet Bonanza POP retains the familiar Tumble mechanic. Whenever five or more matching symbols form a paying combination, the winning symbols disappear and new ones fall into the spaces they leave.
If the new arrangement produces another win, the process repeats. Several winning groups can therefore be paid during one spin before the final result is settled.
This is one of the features that makes the smaller grid work. Without tumbles, a three-reel game could feel rather basic, especially to players accustomed to modern feature-heavy pokies. Allowing successive wins gives each spin more room to develop.
What interests me is the pace. The smaller board means fewer symbols need to be processed visually. I can see whether another paying combination has formed almost immediately, without waiting for an elaborate animation involving thirty or more positions.
The trade-off is that the base game can feel less substantial than the larger Sweet Bonanza releases. There are simply fewer positions for symbol combinations, and the game relies on its special features to create the most memorable results.
Lollipop Scatters and POP Symbols work together
This is where Sweet Bonanza POP becomes genuinely different from the original series.
There are two symbols involved in triggering the bonus: the familiar Lollipop Scatter and the new POP symbol. A qualifying combination of three or more of these symbols activates the Free Spins feature.
Importantly, the triggering symbols can be mixed. You do not necessarily need three ordinary lollipops or three POP symbols. A combination can contain both types.
The difference is what happens when POP symbols participate in that qualifying trigger. Ordinary Scatters provide access to Free Spins, while qualifying POP symbols can also award one of three instant fixed prizes.
This adds another layer of interest to the triggering spin. In most Sweet Bonanza games, I am simply counting Scatters and waiting for the Free Spins screen. Here, the precise type of triggering symbol is much more important.
Three POP prizes: Spark, Snap and Burst
The POP prize system is the headline feature of the game. When POP symbols appear as part of a qualifying Free Spins trigger, the number of POP symbols determines which fixed prize is awarded.
| POP prize | Qualifying POP symbols | Instant payout |
|---|---|---|
| Spark | 1 POP symbol | 50x the bet |
| Snap | 2 POP symbols | 500x the bet |
| Burst | 3 POP symbols | 25,000x the bet |
The critical point is that these prizes depend on a qualifying feature-triggering combination. Simply seeing one isolated POP symbol does not mean the game automatically pays the Spark prize. The necessary triggering conditions must also be satisfied.
For example, a combination of two ordinary Scatters and one POP symbol can activate the bonus and award the Spark prize. One ordinary Scatter together with two POP symbols can activate the bonus with the Snap prize.
A qualifying combination containing three POP symbols awards the Burst prize of 25,000x, matching the game's advertised maximum win.
I find this mechanic more interesting than another very large multiplier appearing at random during Free Spins. It gives the triggering spin itself significant financial importance and creates different outcomes depending on the composition of the triggering symbols.
It is also a mechanic that needs careful explanation. The enormous 25,000x amount is not a standard payout you should expect to see regularly during a bonus. It is the theoretical top prize associated with the rare Burst combination.
Why the instant prizes change the game's identity
In most versions of Sweet Bonanza, triggering Free Spins is just the beginning. The feature itself must generate enough paying combinations and multipliers to produce a substantial return.
Sweet Bonanza POP introduces a different possibility: the triggering event can already contain a fixed prize before the Free Spins outcome is considered.
For me, that changes what makes a spin exciting. I am no longer watching only for the third Scatter. I am interested in whether the trigger includes POP symbols and, if so, how many.
The large jump between 50x, 500x and 25,000x is also deliberate. These are three very different payout levels, not small progressive steps along a smooth prize ladder.
I would describe the POP mechanic as a fixed-prize system rather than a traditional progressive jackpot. The advertised values are predefined multiples of the stake; they are not a shared jackpot pool increasing as players wager across multiple casinos.
Free Spins begin with 10 rounds
Any qualifying combination of at least three Scatter and/or POP symbols triggers a bonus round with 10 Free Spins.
During the feature, the game continues using the compact 3x5 grid and tumbling wins, but multiplier bombs can now appear to increase the value of winning sequences.
Free Spins can also be retriggered. Landing three additional Scatter symbols awards five more spins, while four or more qualifying Scatters award ten extra spins.
| Bonus event | Result |
|---|---|
| 3 or more qualifying Scatter/POP symbols in the base game | 10 Free Spins |
| 3 additional Scatters during Free Spins | 5 extra spins |
| 4 or more additional Scatters during Free Spins | 10 extra spins |
| Multiplier bomb appears in the bonus | Its value may contribute to a qualifying tumble win |
| Multiple multiplier bombs appear | Relevant values are combined |
| Maximum individual multiplier bomb | 1,000x |
I like the straightforward retrigger rules. There are no elaborate collection meters to manage and no complicated bonus map to understand. You know what another set of Scatters does, and the result is immediately visible.
The simplicity fits the POP concept well. Instead of introducing several different Free Spins modes and expensive bonus purchases, the game concentrates on one recognisable feature with a few clearly defined enhancements.
Multiplier bombs up to 1,000x
Sweet Bonanza POP keeps one of the signature mechanics of the main series: multiplier bombs that can dramatically increase the value of a winning sequence.
During Free Spins, multiplier symbols can appear with values reaching as high as 1,000x. Their values remain available during the relevant tumbling sequence, and when more than one multiplier contributes to that sequence, the values are added together.
The resulting total multiplier is applied to the qualifying accumulated win when the tumble sequence has finished.
For example, if a series of tumbles produces a qualifying payout of 8 units and multiplier bombs worth 10x and 25x are collected, their combined multiplier is 35x. That would turn the 8-unit win into 280 units.
This is a useful example because it explains why several smaller multipliers can matter more than one spectacular-looking symbol. The total win depends on both the underlying symbol payouts and the accumulated multiplier values.
Another detail is worth emphasising: the multiplier bombs remain relevant within a tumbling sequence, not automatically throughout the entire Free Spins feature. They should not be confused with persistent position-based multipliers such as those found in Sweet Rush Bonanza.
That difference makes the POP bonus much easier to follow. A winning spin develops, multiplier values are added, the result is calculated and the next Free Spin begins.
97.05% RTP is one of its strongest characteristics
The published RTP for Sweet Bonanza POP is 97.05%, which is an attractive number for a contemporary online pokie.
It does not mean the game will return 97.05% of every player's deposit, nor does it guarantee that a hundred spins will produce anything close to that proportion of the money wagered. RTP is calculated across a very large number of theoretical game rounds and includes the contribution from rare outcomes.
In a game containing a fixed 25,000x prize, that distinction is especially important. A large theoretical prize can contribute to the overall mathematical return even though an individual player may never encounter it.
I still consider 97.05% a positive attribute, provided the version being played actually uses that configuration. RTP should always be checked in the game's information menu because the mathematical settings supplied to different operators may vary.
The figure also tells us nothing about whether the next spin is likely to win. The random number generator does not track how much a particular player has lost and does not provide compensation after a run of unsuccessful rounds.
Medium volatility and a 30.12% hit frequency
Pragmatic Play classifies Sweet Bonanza POP as a Medium volatility game. The published hit frequency is 30.12%.
I think that fits the general purpose of the POP collection. The smaller grid, simplified mechanics and straightforward bonus structure are designed for a more accessible playing experience than some of the extreme multiplier-heavy releases in the broader Pragmatic Play catalogue.
But Medium volatility should not be confused with guaranteed frequent profits. Hit frequency includes any qualifying winning outcome, including payouts that may be smaller than the amount wagered on the spin.
A 30.12% hit frequency means the mathematical model produces some form of winning result on roughly that proportion of game rounds over the long run. It does not mean every third spin will generate a net profit.
The game can still produce substantial short-term fluctuations, particularly because the three POP prizes have such different values. The 25,000x maximum is an extreme result even within a game classified as Medium volatility.
No Bonus Buy or Ante Bet
One difference I appreciate is that Sweet Bonanza POP does not include a Bonus Buy or Ante Bet feature in the published game configuration.
There is no standard option to pay 100x or 500x the normal stake and jump directly into a special feature. You play the ordinary game, wait for the necessary symbols to appear and allow the bonus to trigger naturally.
For a game positioned as a more accessible alternative to the main series, I think this is the correct choice. Adding several expensive purchasing modes would undermine the simplicity that the POP collection is supposed to offer.
That said, the absence of Bonus Buy does not automatically make a pokie safe or profitable. Every paid spin still involves financial risk, and the game retains a house edge.
I would consider this a design advantage rather than a guarantee of better outcomes. Players who mainly enjoy evaluating different Bonus Buy features will probably find the main Sweet Bonanza releases more interesting.
Visual design and mobile gameplay
Sweet Bonanza POP deliberately looks more playful and compact than its predecessors. The familiar fruit and candy symbols remain, but the entire presentation is arranged around a smaller board and quicker actions.
I think the design works particularly well on a mobile screen. A three-reel grid is easy to read in portrait orientation, and five matching symbols are much easier to identify than a large group scattered across thirty positions.
The game also has fewer simultaneous interface elements to manage. There are no complicated Bonus Buy menus, no multiple feature-purchase prices and no elaborate collection meters occupying space around the board.
For somebody who likes playing a demo for a few minutes on a phone, that simplicity is a genuine advantage. You can understand the primary mechanics almost immediately and focus on the actual game rather than interpreting a complicated control panel.
I do not consider the graphics especially original. Pragmatic Play has been using similar candy colours and fruit symbols for years. The achievement here is not the artwork itself but how effectively the developer has adapted that familiar style to the smaller format.
How the POP version changes the Sweet Bonanza formula
The biggest difference is not just the reduction from six reels to three. It is the redistribution of the game's excitement.
In the original Sweet Bonanza, the familiar sequence is straightforward: land four lollipops, enter Free Spins, hope for tumbling wins and substantial multiplier bombs.
In Sweet Bonanza 1000, the multiplier ceiling becomes more extreme. Sweet Bonanza 2500 pushes it further and offers more ways to enter enhanced bonus features.
Sweet Bonanza POP changes the formula by making the triggering symbols themselves potentially valuable. The three POP prizes create an immediate distinction between different qualifying triggers before the Free Spins feature has even begun.
That is the feature I consider most distinctive. It gives the game a recognisable identity without requiring complicated mathematics or a huge number of special modes.
I would not automatically rank POP above the full-sized sequels because their goals are different. The larger games are built around more elaborate multiplier potential, while POP focuses on speed, readability and fixed-prize moments.
What I like about Sweet Bonanza POP
- The compact 3x5 grid makes winning combinations easy to identify.
- The 97.05% published RTP is a positive mathematical characteristic.
- Medium volatility follows the developer's stated classification.
- POP Symbols introduce three distinctive instant fixed prizes.
- The maximum payout reaches 25,000x the stake.
- Multiplier bombs can reach 1,000x during Free Spins.
- The game remains straightforward without complicated feature-buy menus.
- Its design is particularly well suited to mobile devices.
What could be better?
My first criticism is that the ordinary paytable is relatively modest, reaching 50x before special multiplier effects. That is understandable given the compact format, but it means much of the headline appeal comes from the bonus mechanics and fixed prizes.
The second limitation is the dependence of the largest advertised win on the very specific Burst-triggering combination. A player looking at the 25,000x maximum should understand exactly where that figure comes from rather than assuming it is a typical Free Spins possibility.
I also think the simplified game structure may feel too basic for enthusiasts who enjoy complicated bonus progressions, several feature modes or persistent multipliers. It is designed for a different type of session.
Finally, the theme itself is becoming increasingly familiar. Pragmatic Play has created a huge family of candy pokies, and the smaller board does not entirely remove that sense of repetition.
Who I would recommend it to
Sweet Bonanza POP is worth trying if you enjoy the original candy-pokie formula but prefer faster, simpler gameplay. The three-reel setup is especially appealing for mobile play, and the fixed-prize POP system gives the bonus trigger an unusual element of anticipation.
I would also recommend exploring the demo if you want to understand the difference between a normal Scatter trigger and one containing POP symbols. The mechanics are easy to follow, and the prize structure is clearly defined.
If you prefer more elaborate high-multiplier bonus systems, I would instead explore Sweet Bonanza 2500 or Sweet Rush Bonanza. Those games offer more complicated interactions and place greater emphasis on how multipliers develop within a feature.
My assessment
Sweet Bonanza POP is a surprisingly sensible direction for Pragmatic Play. Instead of endlessly escalating the multiplier ceiling, the developer has produced a simpler game with its own distinguishing mechanic.
The 3x5 grid, Medium volatility, 97.05% RTP and clearly structured Free Spins make the game approachable. Meanwhile, Spark, Snap and Burst give the triggering spin more importance than it would have in a conventional Sweet Bonanza release.
What I value most is that the game does not require a long explanation before somebody can understand what they are watching. Match five symbols for a win, let the board tumble, collect three qualifying special symbols for Free Spins and watch for the POP prize levels.
That simplicity does not prevent the game from having substantial theoretical upside. The 25,000x Burst prize is enormous relative to a normal stake, although it remains an exceptional outcome rather than something a player should expect to encounter.
My final rating is 4.7 out of 5. Sweet Bonanza POP earns its place in the Pragmatic Play catalogue because it changes the structure of the franchise rather than merely updating its multiplier numbers.
For more games with tumbling reels, Free Spins and different bonus mechanics, browse the complete Bonanza pokies catalogue. Remember that all outcomes are random, the maximum advertised payout is never guaranteed, and real-money gaming should remain within a fixed entertainment budget.
