My Assessment of Genie's Gem Bonanza
Genie's Gem Bonanza is a 6x5 Pay Anywhere pokie from Pragmatic Play, released on 8 September 2025. It takes the familiar tumbling-reel formula and moves it into a fantasy world of Arabian markets, magic lamps, precious stones and a rather mischievous genie. The developer has given it three interacting features: Mystery Symbols, Cash Coins and multipliers reaching 100x. The theoretical maximum win is 10,000x the stake.
What interests me about this release is the way several seemingly ordinary mechanics can contribute to the same result. Mystery Symbols can reveal a valuable Cash Coin or complete a paying combination, while multiplier symbols can increase the value of the entire tumble sequence. There is more going on than simply waiting for four Scatters and hoping the Free Spins feature produces something worthwhile.
My rating for Genie's Gem Bonanza is 4.6 out of 5. I like the interaction between the special symbols and the straightforward grid. At the same time, I would not call it a revolutionary release. The basic Pay Anywhere format is already extremely familiar to anyone who has spent time with Sweet Bonanza or other Pragmatic Play pokies.

How the 6x5 Pay Anywhere game works
The basic rules are familiar. Genie's Gem Bonanza uses 30 positions arranged across six reels and five rows. Instead of conventional paylines, you need at least eight matching symbols anywhere on the grid to form a winning combination. Their positions do not matter, and there is no requirement for matching symbols to touch.
Winning groups can contain up to 30 matching symbols, although seeing that many identical icons is naturally far less common than landing a small paying group. The regular paytable offers payouts reaching 50x the stake before any additional special-symbol effects.
I have always liked Pay Anywhere games because the outcome is immediately understandable. On a busy mobile screen, I do not want to trace twenty or fifty paylines to see where a result came from. Here, enough matching symbols appear and the game awards the corresponding payout.
The Tumble feature then removes the winning symbols. Everything above the cleared positions falls down, and fresh symbols enter from the top. A new paying combination starts another tumble, and the process continues until no further wins form.
There is no fixed number of tumbles per paid spin. A sequence can stop after one removal or continue through several consecutive winning arrangements. The total value is established once the sequence finishes, including any applicable multiplier effects.
That structure is important because some of the game's special symbols become much more valuable when they land during a productive tumble sequence.
Mystery Symbols are more useful than they first appear
The Mystery Symbol is represented by a decorated symbol carrying a question mark. One or several can appear during ordinary gameplay.
When the Mystery Symbols reveal their contents, they transform into the same randomly selected paying symbol or into Cash Coins. This means they can complete an eight-symbol winning group, increase an existing group to a higher-paying size or introduce direct cash values into the current result.
For me, this is the feature that makes the base game more interesting. In some pokies, a Mystery Symbol is just an additional animation before the reels settle. Here, the result can affect several parts of the payout calculation.
Imagine a grid containing six matching gems and several Mystery Symbols. If enough Mystery Symbols transform into that gem type, the screen can suddenly produce a paying group. The Tumble feature then clears the symbols and creates another opportunity for new combinations.
Of course, the Mystery reveal is random. It is not programmed to complete whichever combination would be most convenient for the player. Sometimes the transformation helps enormously; sometimes it does very little.
Cash Coins: direct prizes of up to 100x
Cash Coins are another important part of Genie's Gem Bonanza. They can be revealed by Mystery Symbols and carry predefined values measured in multiples of the total stake.
| Cash Coin value | Prize at a 1-unit base bet |
|---|---|
| 1x | 1 unit |
| 2x | 2 units |
| 5x | 5 units |
| 10x | 10 units |
| 20x | 20 units |
| 50x | 50 units |
| 100x | 100 units |
The important distinction is that a Cash Coin represents a direct monetary value rather than an ordinary symbol paying through the standard gem paytable. The appropriate coin prizes contribute to the result of the round.
I particularly like the combination of Mystery Symbols and Cash Coins because it gives the game two routes towards a meaningful payout. A Mystery reveal might help create a larger group of matching symbols, or it might award cash values without relying entirely on a large cluster of gems.
Those possibilities become even more interesting when multiplier symbols appear during the same productive sequence.
Genie multipliers from 2x to 100x
Multiplier Symbols can appear during both the base game and Free Spins. Their possible values are 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x and 100x.
If more than one multiplier symbol participates in a qualifying winning sequence, their values are added together. The combined multiplier then applies to the appropriate accumulated tumble win.
For example, suppose a sequence produces a total qualifying win of 12 units and multiplier symbols worth 5x and 10x appear. Their combined value is 15x, potentially turning the 12-unit result into 180 units.
This is why I do not judge the potential of a screen simply by counting how many ordinary paying symbols have landed. A relatively modest win can become important when several multiplier symbols contribute to the calculation.
It is also why the maximum individual multiplier is not the same thing as the maximum total multiplier possible within a sequence. A single symbol reaches 100x, but the sum of multiple multiplier symbols can be higher.
There is one detail worth understanding: multiplier symbols do not make an otherwise non-paying grid profitable simply by appearing. The underlying result still needs to satisfy the game's payout conditions. A multiplier is valuable because of what it multiplies.
Random Genie additions
Another unusual element is the game's ability to introduce extra special symbols during gameplay. Depending on the random event, Mystery Symbols, Multiplier Symbols or Scatters may be added following a spin or tumble.
I like this mechanic because it creates a second chance for an otherwise unremarkable arrangement to develop. It does not require an entirely new set of reels or a separate bonus screen. The genie can influence what is already happening on the main grid.
At the same time, I would not describe these random additions as predictable or strategically exploitable. There is no reliable way to know when they will appear, which symbol will be added or whether the resulting sequence will produce a significant payout.
Free Spins begin with at least 12 spins
The Free Spins feature is triggered by landing four or more magic-lamp Scatter Symbols anywhere on the grid. Four Scatters award 12 Free Spins, and every additional Scatter on the triggering spin contributes two more.
During Free Spins, three or more Scatters can retrigger the feature. The first three award four additional spins, with two more added for each Scatter beyond the third.
| Scatter event | Free Spins awarded |
|---|---|
| 4 Scatters in the base game | 12 Free Spins |
| 5 Scatters in the base game | 14 Free Spins |
| 6 Scatters in the base game | 16 Free Spins |
| 3 Scatters during Free Spins | 4 additional spins |
| 4 Scatters during Free Spins | 6 additional spins |
| 5 Scatters during Free Spins | 8 additional spins |
| 6 Scatters during Free Spins | 10 additional spins |
The bonus continues to use the game's major mechanics, including Mystery Symbols, Cash Coins, tumbling wins and multiplier symbols. Special reels are used during the feature, changing the distribution of the symbols involved.
What I like about this approach is that the bonus does not introduce a completely unrelated game. Instead, it gives the existing mechanics more opportunities to interact across several free rounds.
A strong Free Spins result can come from different combinations of events: useful Mystery transformations, high-value Cash Coins, repeated tumbles or a sizeable multiplier applied to accumulated wins.
Retriggers are valuable because they extend the number of opportunities available, but additional spins never guarantee that the feature will become profitable. A long bonus can still contain many low-paying or non-paying results.
Ante Bet and Bonus Buy
Genie's Gem Bonanza provides two optional ways to change how you access the Free Spins feature, depending on the operator and jurisdiction.
The Ante Bet increases the price of a regular spin to 1.5 times the normal stake in exchange for an improved probability of triggering Free Spins. The Bonus Buy option provides direct entry into the feature for a price of 100 times the selected base bet.
I think the distinction matters enormously. Ante Bet changes the cost and probability structure of repeated base-game spins. Bonus Buy concentrates the expenditure into one feature purchase.
At a base stake of 1 unit, a regular spin costs 1 unit, an Ante Bet spin costs 1.5 units and a 100x bonus purchase costs 100 units. Those are not interchangeable financial exposures.
Buying a bonus also does not guarantee that the feature will return its purchase price. You are purchasing a particular game event, not a guaranteed outcome.
When reviewing a slot, I find the Bonus Buy useful for examining the feature's rules in a demo. For real-money play, I would be far more cautious because a few unsuccessful feature purchases can represent a very large amount of wagering.
RTP and the Medium volatility rating
The standard RTP of Genie's Gem Bonanza is 96.50%. The developer also lists a hit frequency of 31.15% for the game. Different operators may supply alternative RTP settings, so the value shown in the actual game's information panel should always take priority.
Pragmatic Play's own game information classifies volatility as Medium. Some third-party reviews call the slot High volatility, but I prefer to preserve the developer's stated classification rather than make a new one based on the size of the maximum payout or the presence of large multipliers.
Medium volatility does not mean every session will have smooth results. It describes the distribution designed into the mathematical model. In the short term, randomness can still produce long periods without substantial wins or unusually large results concentrated into a small number of spins.
RTP is also a theoretical long-term average, not a promise that a particular session will return 96.50% of the money wagered. The game retains a house edge, and individual results can deviate enormously from the published figure.
The advertised 10,000x maximum is a ceiling rather than a realistic expectation. I consider it a useful indicator of the mathematical range, but it does not tell me how frequently the maximum can occur.
Theme, graphics and mobile experience
Pragmatic Play has used Arabian fantasy themes before, and Genie's Gem Bonanza does not radically change the formula. We get a magical setting, elaborate decorations, colourful gems and a genie whose appearance reinforces the special features.
I do think the art direction works well with the mechanics. Mystery Symbols and Cash Coins fit the treasure theme naturally. They do not look like generic bonus symbols pasted into an unrelated game.
The 6x5 grid is readable on desktop and mobile. Matching symbols are easy to identify, the Mystery transformations are visually clear and multiplier values stand out without requiring a complicated payline display.
Mobile play is especially important for Pay Anywhere pokies. If the game presents 30 symbols and several special effects at once, the player needs to understand the result without zooming in or hunting through a payline diagram. This release generally keeps that process simple.
The downside is familiarity. Anyone who has played several modern Pragmatic Play releases will recognise the reel behaviour, bonus presentation and visual rhythm. I enjoy the execution, but the underlying design is evolutionary rather than completely original.
What makes it different from Sweet Bonanza?
I would not describe Genie's Gem Bonanza as a direct copy of Sweet Bonanza, even though both use 6x5 Pay Anywhere grids and tumbling wins.
The main distinction is the additional Mystery and Cash Coin system. In Sweet Bonanza, the central bonus appeal revolves around multiplier bombs and the standard Free Spins format. Here, Mystery transformations add another route into the payout calculation, and Cash Coins introduce direct bet-multiple values.
That gives the base game more texture. Rather than watching only for matching-symbol groups and Scatters, I am also paying attention to what Mystery Symbols might reveal and how those results could interact with multipliers.
Players who enjoy Sweet Rush Bonanza may also appreciate this emphasis on interacting mechanics, although Sweet Rush uses position-based multipliers rather than Mystery transformations and Cash Coins.
What I like about Genie's Gem Bonanza
- The 6x5 Pay Anywhere system is straightforward and mobile-friendly.
- Mystery Symbols introduce more interesting outcomes than a basic gem paytable.
- Cash Coins can award direct values up to 100x the stake.
- Multiplier symbols are active in the base game as well as Free Spins.
- Multiple multipliers can be combined within a qualifying sequence.
- The minimum 12-spin bonus is more substantial than many modern six-spin features.
- The 10,000x maximum provides significant theoretical upside.
Where I think the game falls short
My main criticism is that the broader structure is already very familiar. Pragmatic Play has developed numerous Pay Anywhere pokies around tumbling symbols and bonus multipliers. Genie's Gem Bonanza adds some welcome variety, but it does not fundamentally change how the genre works.
I would also have liked a stronger progression mechanic linking individual paid spins. Mystery Symbols and Cash Coins are entertaining while they are active, but the base game does not offer the persistent multiplier-building structure found in something like Sweet Rush Bonanza.
Finally, the Bonus Buy is expensive relative to a standard spin. The game provides an immediate route into Free Spins where that option is allowed, but it also makes it possible to commit a substantial amount to one randomly determined event.
Who should try Genie's Gem Bonanza?
I would recommend the demo to players who like the standard Pragmatic Play Pay Anywhere format but want more variety in how a winning sequence develops.
The combination of Mystery transformations, direct Cash Coin values and multipliers makes the game more interesting than a simple symbol-matching exercise. It is particularly appealing if you enjoy understanding the interaction between several bonus mechanics instead of concentrating on just one large multiplier.
I would be less enthusiastic if you are searching for a genuinely new reel system, traditional paylines or a low-volatility experience with predictable payouts. Even with the developer's Medium volatility classification, substantial wins remain random and cannot be forced through a betting strategy.
My assessment
Genie's Gem Bonanza is a polished addition to Pragmatic Play's Bonanza-style catalogue. Its greatest strength is not the 10,000x maximum win but the way Mystery Symbols, Cash Coins and multiplier symbols interact within one tumbling sequence.
The game is easy to understand without feeling completely empty, and the Free Spins feature extends the same mechanics instead of replacing them with an unrelated mini-game.
I give it 4.6 out of 5. It is not the most inventive pokie Pragmatic Play has ever produced, but it offers enough distinctive features to earn its place in the Pragmatic Play catalogue. You can also explore the full Bonanza pokies collection to find games with different mechanics and mathematical profiles.
As always, I recommend checking the active RTP in the game menu and treating any real-money play as entertainment rather than a way of earning income. No combination of Mystery Symbols, multipliers or betting choices can remove the house edge.
