My Assessment of Big Bass Bonanza 1000
Big Bass Bonanza 1000 takes Pragmatic Play's familiar fishing formula and pushes its prize ceiling into much more ambitious territory. Released on 24 April 2025, the game retains the five-reel, three-row layout and Fisherman Wild collection feature that helped make the series so recognisable. The big changes are Money Fish worth up to 1,000x the stake and a maximum win of 20,000x. For anyone who has spent time with the original Big Bass Bonanza, the rules will feel familiar, but the higher-value fish give each successful collection a very different potential outcome.
I am not automatically impressed by a larger number in a slot title. What matters to me is whether a sequel does something useful with that extra potential. Big Bass Bonanza 1000 makes a relatively focused change: the Fisherman can collect unusually valuable fish, while three retrigger levels increase the Money Symbol multiplier to 2x, 3x and eventually 10x. That keeps the central bonus easy to understand without pretending a 1,000x fish is an everyday event.
I rate Big Bass Bonanza 1000 4.6 out of 5. I enjoy the straightforward collector mechanic and the way random reel events can rescue an otherwise disappointing bonus spin. My reservation is that so much of the headline potential is concentrated in rare Money Symbol values and the later stages of Free Spins. This is a game to judge by its actual mechanics, not by the idea that its maximum payout is somehow within easy reach.

Five reels, ten paylines and a very familiar fishing trip
This is a conventional five-reel, three-row slot rather than a cluster-pay or Megaways game. Ten fixed paylines cross the grid. Winning combinations generally begin on the leftmost reel and continue across adjacent reels. Most symbols pay for three, four or five matches, although the highest-paying fishing float can also pay for two.
There are fishing rods, dragonflies, tackle boxes, floats, fish and lower-value card symbols. If you have played a few Big Bass pokies, you will recognise the look immediately. That is both a strength and a limitation. I can understand the paytable almost instantly, but there is little novelty in the base-game artwork or the ordinary line wins.
The fish deserve special attention. They behave as standard paying symbols in the base game, even when a cash value is displayed. The printed Money Fish value is not automatically awarded just because the symbol appears. That value matters when the Fisherman Wild collects it during Free Spins.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions I see with collector pokies. A screen can look full of cash values without any of those numbers being paid as instant prizes. The actual triggering conditions matter more than the visual amount printed on the fish.
Money Fish can carry a 1,000x value
The possible fish values are 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x and 1,000x the total bet. Those values are assigned randomly. They are separate from the normal payline value of the fish symbol and become cash awards only when collected by a Fisherman Wild in the feature.
A 1,000x fish is the obvious headline attraction, but I pay just as much attention to whether a Wild actually appears alongside the fish. A valuable Money Symbol with no collector does not provide the bonus payout you might expect from the number alone.
When a Fisherman lands in Free Spins, he collects the values of every visible Money Fish. Each Fisherman Wild on that spin performs the collection, which means the number of collectors can matter as well as the number of fish. The collected amount may also be multiplied by the active Free Spins level.
In a hypothetical round, three fish worth 5x, 20x and 50x would represent a total of 75x before any collection multiplier. If the active level is 3x and one Fisherman collects them, that would be a 225x Money Symbol award. This example illustrates the arithmetic, not the frequency of that particular outcome.
Free Spins: three Scatters or a lucky last-minute rescue
Three Scatters award 10 Free Spins, four award 15, and five award 20. The exact number at the start matters because the longer the bonus lasts, the more opportunities there are to land Fishermen and fill the collection meter.
There is also a random second-chance mechanism when two Scatters appear without a third. Depending on the reel position and random event, some reels may respin while the Scatters shift down, or a Hook can lift a reel to reveal an additional Scatter. Neither outcome is guaranteed. It is an occasional rescue feature, not a reason to expect every two-Scatter result to become a bonus.
| Trigger | Result |
|---|---|
| 3 Scatters | 10 Free Spins |
| 4 Scatters | 15 Free Spins |
| 5 Scatters | 20 Free Spins |
| 2 Scatters | Random chance of a Hook or respin event completing the trigger |
| 4 collected Fisherman Wilds | 10 extra spins and 2x Money Symbol collection multiplier |
| 8 collected Fisherman Wilds | 10 extra spins and 3x collection multiplier |
| 12 collected Fisherman Wilds | 10 extra spins and 10x collection multiplier |
I like that this is still an understandable progression system. Rather than choosing among several unrelated mini-games, you can see the Fisherman count growing towards the next level. What I do not like is how easy it is to overvalue an early collection. Landing the first few Fishermen is useful, but the larger multipliers need more collectors, and a feature can end before the next milestone.
The three Fisherman retriggers are the backbone of the bonus
Every fourth Fisherman collected unlocks another ten spins. The first milestone sets the collection multiplier to 2x, the second to 3x and the third to 10x. The extra spins are played after the current batch finishes, with their corresponding higher multiplier. After the third retrigger, the feature cannot unlock another multiplier level.
This timing is more important than it may sound. Reaching a threshold does not instantly transform all earlier collections into a higher-paying result. The multiplier is for the subsequent retriggered batch. If the most valuable Money Fish appeared before that upgrade, you cannot apply the later multiplier retroactively.
I consider the third level the point where the mathematical potential becomes especially interesting. A 10x collection multiplier can produce a substantial result when several fish land alongside Fishermen. But it takes twelve collected Fishermen to reach that stage, so the bonus can end much earlier. The attraction is real, and so is the variance.
Hook and Bazooka events can save a bonus spin
Big Bass Bonanza 1000 includes several random events after a Free Spin appears to have finished. When a Fisherman is visible, additional Money Fish may be added. If Fishermen are present but no fish land, the Bazooka can place random Money Symbols on the grid. A Hook animation can also introduce Fishermen or fish after the ordinary reel stop.
These are among my favourite moments in the game, not because they change the underlying odds in a way the player can exploit, but because they create genuine surprise within a very repetitive reel format. A dead-looking spin can suddenly turn into a collection, while a promising screen can still finish without the desired combination.
I would not build a playing strategy around them. Their activation is random, the game does not disclose a schedule for them, and no pattern of previous spins predicts when the next rescue event will happen.
Standard Free Spins and Super Free Spins purchases
In selected markets, two purchase options are available: the standard Free Spins feature for 100x the total stake and Super Free Spins for 450x. The Super version increases the chance of receiving Money Fish valued at 1,000x; it does not guarantee that one will be collected or that the bonus will recover its purchase price.
There is also an Ante Bet mode that costs 1.5 times the normal spin and increases the presence of Scatter symbols on the reels. In the published rules, activating this mode disables the Bonus Buy buttons. These options may be removed entirely depending on local regulation.
| Playing mode | Cost | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Normal base-game spin | 1x normal stake | Standard reel and bonus-trigger rules |
| Ante Bet | 1.5x normal stake | More Scatter symbols; Bonus Buy unavailable |
| Buy Free Spins | 100x normal stake | Direct feature entry |
| Buy Super Free Spins | 450x normal stake | Direct entry with enhanced chance of 1,000x Money Fish |
From a review perspective, bonus purchases are useful for understanding how the feature works in a demo. From a bankroll perspective, 450x is a very large amount to commit to one random bonus. A bigger cost is not evidence of positive expected value. It simply changes the distribution and size of the risk.
RTP, volatility and what I would check in the actual game
The commonly published RTP is 96.51%, while lower operator configurations have also been reported. The information menu in the exact playable version takes priority over a review or aggregator listing, especially when different casinos can configure the theoretical return.
There is also a genuine inconsistency in publicly circulated volatility labels. One published rules edition describes the game as High volatility, while another documented information screen labels it Medium. Because of that conflict, I would check the volatility statement in the actual game build rather than claim that a third-party label settles the question.
Regardless of that label, I approach a slot with a 20,000x ceiling and 1,000x Money Fish carefully. The advertised maximum is a theoretical cap. It does not mean the highest-value fish will arrive regularly, and it certainly does not mean a bonus is due after a series of empty spins.
If the combined payout reaches 20,000x, the round ends and that capped amount is awarded. Remaining Free Spins are not played. This is standard behaviour for games with a hard maximum-win limit, and it is worth knowing before assuming a long feature can exceed the advertised ceiling.
What works well on desktop and mobile?
I find the Big Bass interface easy to read even on a phone. Ten paylines are less visually demanding than a large cluster grid, and the main Money Fish values remain legible. The bonus meter also gives a useful summary of how close you are to the next retrigger without forcing you to inspect several information panels.
The art direction is admittedly very familiar. The fisherman, lake, fish, rods and fishing accessories have appeared in so many editions that I would not give this release high marks for visual originality. What keeps it engaging is the occasional rescue animation and the tension between landing Money Fish and finding the Fisherman who can collect them.
Who will enjoy Big Bass Bonanza 1000?
I would put this on the shortlist for players who already enjoy collector-style fishing pokies and specifically want a larger mathematical ceiling. The upgrade to 1,000x individual fish values creates a meaningful distinction from earlier releases, without making the basic rules difficult to learn.
If you prefer a shorter, more stripped-back fishing game, take a look at Big Bass Bonanza 3 Reeler. If the fishing theme appeals but you want a different spin on it, Big Bass Football Bonanza blends the collection formula with a football setting.
I would be less enthusiastic if you want regular meaningful base-game wins or a feature that does not depend heavily on the arrival of particular collector symbols. Those are not the strengths of Big Bass Bonanza 1000. The very thing that makes its bonus dramatic can also make a poor feature feel frustrating.
My assessment
Big Bass Bonanza 1000 is an evolution of a proven slot rather than a reinvention. Its most useful upgrades are the 1,000x Money Fish, the 20,000x maximum and the way the existing Fisherman progression turns those new values into potentially much larger collections. I particularly like how the Hook and Bazooka animations provide occasional surprises without obscuring the core mechanics.
The weaker points are the heavily recycled presentation and the dependence on a fairly specific sequence of events to unlock the largest outcomes. I also think the 450x Super Free Spins option deserves much more caution than its colourful button suggests.
My rating remains 4.6 out of 5. I would start with a free demo and read the RTP and volatility information in that build before drawing conclusions about its maths. More titles with different reel systems and bonus structures are available in the Bonanza pokies catalogue. Like every real-money slot, this one is a game of chance with a built-in house edge, not a reliable way to make money.
