About Nucleus Gaming
Nucleus Gaming is an independent casino software studio with a catalogue of more than 100 HTML5 games. The company combines content development with operator-facing technology, including game management, reporting and promotional tools. Its portfolio covers traditional paylines, cluster games, expanding grids and a growing number of Hold & Win releases.
The studio has been active for considerably longer than its recent Bonanza games might suggest. Earlier releases such as Runes of Odin, Joker Gemferno, Salsa Poppers and Fruity Way show that Nucleus was already experimenting with clusters, expanding playing areas and character-driven modifiers before “Bonanza” became one of the industry's most overused title words.
Nucleus currently has two relevant releases: Juicy Bonanza from 2022 and Joker Cash Bonanza from 2024. They are not direct sequels. One uses an unusual reel shape and a large free-spin allocation, while the other combines a classic fruit machine with Hold & Win.
Two Very Different Bonanza Games
| Game | Format | Key mechanics | Maximum win |
|---|---|---|---|
| Juicy Bonanza | 3-4-5-4-3 reels with 720 ways | Fruit wins and a free-spin feature offering up to 96 spins | Approximately 3,200× according to the developer |
| Joker Cash Bonanza | 5 reels with 243 ways | Hold & Win, sticky bonus symbols, Extra Win and optional Bonus Buy | 2,000× in the version listed on this site |
The contrast is important. Nucleus is not repeatedly reskinning one mathematical model. At the same time, the lack of a common structure means “Bonanza” functions as a marketing umbrella rather than the name of a proprietary Nucleus engine.
Juicy Bonanza
Juicy Bonanza uses a tapered 3-4-5-4-3 layout. The middle reel is the tallest, while the outer reels contain fewer positions, producing a diamond-shaped playing area. Wins can form across 720 ways rather than fixed paylines.
The game was released in July 2022 and advertises the possibility of receiving as many as 96 free spins from one trigger. That figure is the eye-catching part of the design, but the number of spins should not be confused with their value. Ninety-six low-paying results can still produce a smaller total than a short feature containing one strong combination.
I like the tapered grid because it gives the game a recognisable silhouette. Many fruit slots become visually interchangeable once their logos are removed; Juicy Bonanza is easier to identify. The downside is that the reduced outer reels restrict the positions available for beginning and completing winning ways.
The developer currently describes potential up to roughly 3,200×, while the Slots Bonanza card shows 3,414×. This may reflect different mathematical versions or revised documentation. The live paytable should be treated as definitive rather than quietly selecting the larger number.
Joker Cash Bonanza Hold & Win
Joker Cash Bonanza moves in a different direction. Released in October 2024, it combines fruit-machine symbols with 243 ways and a Hold & Win feature. Bonus symbols lock in place during the respin round, while new bonus symbols can occupy the remaining positions.
The Extra Win symbol selects bonus symbols and increases their displayed values. This creates a useful second route to a stronger feature: the game does not rely only on filling empty positions, as existing prizes may also be upgraded. Joker symbols act as wilds in standard reel combinations.
| Joker Cash Bonanza feature | Function |
|---|---|
| Bonus symbols | Carry values and become sticky during Hold & Win |
| Extra Win | Selects bonus symbols and increases their prizes |
| Joker Wild | Substitutes for ordinary paying symbols |
| Bonus Buy | Provides direct feature access where the operator and jurisdiction permit it |
In my view, the Extra Win modifier is the better part of the design. Standard Hold & Win games often become repetitive because every bonus follows the same routine of locking coins and waiting for another one. Increasing symbols already on the board gives the player an additional event to follow.
It does not create strategic control. A player cannot choose which bonus symbol receives the increase, and a nearly full board is not evidence that the next respin will complete it. Each result remains random.
Does Nucleus Gaming Deserve the Bonanza Name?
Both games contain enough substance to avoid feeling like empty title exercises. Juicy Bonanza has an unusual grid and potentially very long free-spin feature, while Joker Cash Bonanza adds value upgrades to a Hold & Win structure.
The provider has not created a consistent Bonanza series, however. The games have different layouts, payout systems, volatility profiles and feature logic. Their common ground is a fruit-forward presentation and emphasis on abundant bonus outcomes.
I see Nucleus as a mechanics generalist. Its catalogue moves from clusters to paylines and Hold & Win without forcing every idea into one template. That makes the provider harder to summarise, but it also prevents its Bonanza releases from feeling identical.
Players should verify the active RTP and maximum win inside each game, especially where public listings conflict. Feature purchases should be treated as expensive individual bets, not as a method for recovering losses. Nucleus supplying the software also does not prove that a casino is authorised to offer real-money pokies to Australians.
